Revelation 4:6 · World English Bible

Revelation 4:6 Meaning Before the Throne Was Something Like

Before the throne was something like a sea of glass, similar to crystal. In the middle of the throne, and around the throne were four living creatures full of eyes before and behind.

What does Revelation 4:6 mean?

The throne is the seat of consciousness at the center, and the sea of glass spread before it is the mind grown perfectly still, water no longer churned by emotion so that it lies clear as crystal and reflects the light without distortion. A calmed inner sea is the condition in which the higher self can be seen at all.

Esoteric

The throne is the seat of consciousness at the center, and the sea of glass spread before it is the mind grown perfectly still, water no longer churned by emotion so that it lies clear as crystal and reflects the light without distortion. A calmed inner sea is the condition in which the higher self can be seen at all.

The number 4 marks the 4 elements and directions of the physical body, and the beasts are the 4 base forces of the flesh gathered around the center, now covered with eyes before and behind. Eyes everywhere mean these once-blind animal energies have become full of awareness, the raw powers of the body turned into instruments of total perception that see in every direction at once.

Throne: the central seat of consciousness within the body Sea of glass like crystal: the mind grown perfectly still, reflecting the light without distortion The number 4: the 4 elements and directions of the physical body 4 beasts full of eyes: the base forces of the flesh made fully conscious, aware in every direction

Live Revelation 4:6 today

  1. Before answering the message that stirred you up, sit with the feeling for sixty seconds without acting on it. Let the water settle and see what is actually true underneath.
  2. At dinner or on a call, let your senses do the work: the taste, the face in front of you, the sound of the voice. Full attention to plain things is its own kind of love.
  3. In a tense moment at work, instead of fighting what your body is doing, feel it clearly. Tight jaw, fast breath, hot neck. Known sensation is far easier to steer than blind reaction.

What have you been unable to see clearly simply because you never let yourself go still?

The same truth in other traditions

Taoism · Tao Te Ching 15

Muddy water, left still, becomes clear. The Tao teachers ask who can wait quietly while the sediment settles, because what is reflected only shows in water that has stopped churning.

Buddhism · Satipatthana

The Buddha taught awareness of the body in the body, the breath, the posture, the raw sensations, until the physical animal of us is no longer blind but fully known from inside.

Zen

The mind is often called a mirror. It does not grasp or push away; it simply shows what stands before it, and it stays clear by not holding onto anything.
