Romans 10:8 Meaning But What Does It Say

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart;” that is, the word of faith which we preach:

What does Romans 10:8 mean?

You have been taught to seek far away for what is sacred, in distant places, in some future attainment, in the words of other people. But what you are looking for was never at a distance.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

You have been taught to seek far away for what is sacred, in distant places, in some future attainment, in the words of other people. But what you are looking for was never at a distance. It is near you, nearer than near, in your mouth and in your heart, closer than the breath moving through you now.

The truth is not an idea to be reached by thinking, nor a destination to be arrived at in time. It is the still awareness already alive in you at this very moment. You need not travel anywhere or become anyone, because the presence you have been seeking is the very thing in you that is awake and aware right now.

SUFISM

Sufism

People search far for what leans against them. The heart's restlessness hunts distant proofs, as if trust were buried in another country, when it waits the whole time on the tongue and under the ribs. The cure is small and honest: say the word plainly, in private, until speech and belief become one thing.

Nearness is the point. The One sought is not beyond the horizon but showing Himself in the mouth that names Him and the heart that turns. Water takes the shape of its cup, and faith the shape of a heart willing to hold it.

Live Romans 10:8 today

  1. Before you reach for your phone this morning, stay still for one minute and feel your own breathing. Nothing to find, nothing to fix, just the simple fact that you are here and awake.
  2. In your next real conversation, drop the search for the clever thing to say. Be plainly present with the person, and let that be enough.
  3. Stuck in traffic or in the slow checkout line, resist the urge to fill the gap with a screen. Let the waiting be the place where you are, not a tunnel to somewhere better.

If what you were looking for is already here, what have you been running toward?

Rumi

You wander the world asking directions to a place you are standing in. The one you seek has been looking out of your own eyes the whole time.

Upanishads

That vast reality people search the heavens for is seated in the cave of your own heart. You are it already, closer than your own name.

Zen

A man rode his ox all over the province looking for an ox. Looking was the only thing in the way.
