Romans 10:9 Meaning That If You Will Confess
that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9 · World English Bible
that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
In the Greek Scriptures of that day, 'Lord' stood wherever God's own name stood, so calling Jesus Lord sets Him in God's place. Saying it out loud is where conviction stops being private and starts costing something.

PROTESTANT
In the Greek Scriptures of that day, 'Lord' stood wherever God's own name stood, so calling Jesus Lord sets Him in God's place. Saying it out loud is where conviction stops being private and starts costing something.
The heart here is where decisions get settled, not where feelings run, and what gets settled is something God did: He raised Him from the dead. Faith rests on an event outside the believer, one that either happened or did not. God saves the person who confesses and believes, rescuing them from the judgment their sin deserves.

CATHOLIC
Faith is meant to be spoken. Something believed only in private stays half-formed, so the mouth and the heart are named together: interior conviction and public acknowledgment are one act, and either one alone is incomplete.
Calling Jesus Lord meant naming Him God, in a world where saying it could cost a person everything. The resurrection is the fact everything else rests on; without it, Christianity is a moral opinion. This confession is a beginning that opens into a whole life, since faith proves itself real by what it produces. The Christian says the words at baptism, repeats them in the creed each Sunday, and then spends decades letting them become true of him.

ORTHODOX
Mouth and heart are named together because a person is saved whole or not at all. What the heart holds is God's raising of Jesus bodily from the dead, and calling Him Lord gives Him the name that Greek-speaking Jews read for God Himself in their Scriptures.
Salvation here is a healing that begins rather than a deal that closes. The same confession is spoken at baptism and said again by the whole congregation in the Creed, the church's short summary of the faith. The heart believes slowly, and saying it aloud is part of how it gets there.

ESOTERIC
Salvation turns on the agreement of the outer voice and the inner feeling, the mouth and the heart moving as one. To confess with the mouth is to let the awakened self be spoken and owned in the daily person, and to believe in the heart is to hold in the deepest feeling that the higher life has been lifted out of its dead, sleeping state. When the surface and the depth of a person consent to the same truth, the buried power rises and the whole self is made whole. The rising from the dead is the inner life waking within the body, not a corpse leaving a grave.
A person is delivered when word and feeling align and the sleeping higher self is raised awake inside them.
Mouth: the outer voice of a person, the surface that speaks and owns Heart: the deep inner feeling where true belief is held Raised from the dead: the higher life waking out of its dormant, sleeping state within the body
Protestant lens
What do you believe that you have never once said out loud?
The central confession is spoken aloud, morning and evening, by the whole community. Saying it with the mouth is what makes it a commitment and not a private opinion.
A person becomes a follower by saying the three refuges out loud in front of others. The words do not create the Buddha, they place the speaker publicly on his side.
Do not talk about your principles, he said, let them show, and when the moment comes do not hide which side you are on. A conviction kept safely out of sight has not yet cost anything.
