Romans 2:27 · World English Bible
Won’t the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law?
Circumcision is the cutting away of outer desire, and here it is turned against the one who keeps only the literal cut while never severing the craving inside. Uncircumcision by nature is the invisible spirit side of a person, which can fulfill the true law without the outward sign, and it stands in judgment over the surface observance that leaves desire intact.

ESOTERIC
Circumcision is the cutting away of outer desire, and here it is turned against the one who keeps only the literal cut while never severing the craving inside. Uncircumcision by nature is the invisible spirit side of a person, which can fulfill the true law without the outward sign, and it stands in judgment over the surface observance that leaves desire intact. The letter is kept while the inner cutting is skipped, so the outward mark condemns rather than saves.
What this describes is the gap between a physical rite and the real inner work it stands for. Removing the sign of desire outwardly means nothing while desire still rules within, and the spirit that quietly does the actual cutting shows the literal keeper his failure.
Circumcision: the cutting away of outer desire, reduced here to a mere literal mark Uncircumcision by nature: the invisible spirit side of a person, able to fulfill the true law without the outward sign
