MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The whole of creation leans forward, straining toward one event: the moment the Son wakes inside a man. That Son is David, the name for the entire human race and all your experience gathered into one living being, and everything you see waits for him to be revealed. Creation holds its breath for the day this one, formed of all you have ever lived, stands up within you.

He wakes in the skull, turns to face you, and calls you Father, and in that instant you learn who you have been all along. The Son does not point you toward some distant God. He reveals that you are the Father he was born from, that the power behind everything you have met is your own being. This is what all things have waited for, not better circumstances, but the discovery from inside that the one dreaming your world is you.

SUFISM

Sufism

Tasbīḥ: Everything gives praise The Quran holds that every created thing praises God in speech people cannot make out. Someone who takes that seriously stops treating the world as dead furniture arranged around their private life. Trees, weather and animals become company with a stake in how things turn out, and the sense of being alone in one's waiting eases.

Shawq: Longing Sufis give this name to the ache for God that never fully settles. They read the ache as evidence of belonging rather than as a fault, since a person only misses what they have some claim on. For anyone who feels restless and half finished, that recasts the restlessness: it works less like a defect and more like the pull of something on its way.

Al-Amāna: The trust The Quran tells of a trust the mountains, the heavens and the earth all declined, which the human being took up. Sufis read this as the reason everything else has a stake in what people do with themselves. The weight a person carries quietly was refused by all the rest first, and the world is standing by for the result.

Al-Insān al-Kāmil: The complete human being Ibn Arabi pictures the world as a mirror left unpolished until a full human being appeared in it. His point is that creation cannot show what it was made for until someone lives out the whole of what a person can be. That moves the unfinished person from the edge of things to the center, and makes their slow growth matter more than it looks like it does.

I was a hidden treasure and loved to be known, so I created creation: the world exists so something can come into view Sufis repeat this line as God's own words about why anything exists. Being known requires someone to do the knowing, so what is hidden in God waits on creatures able to see it and show it. A person's long work of becoming themselves then stops being self improvement and joins the reason anything was made.

Live Romans 8:19 today

  1. Instead of asking for something tonight, sit quietly and let yourself be the one who could give it, and stay with that reversal for a minute.
  2. Look at one person in your house today and see them as part of the same life you are, not a separate problem to manage, and let that change your tone with them.
  3. When you are stuck in traffic or a long line, stop scanning the world for what is missing and feel for the steady thing in you that nothing out there gave you.

What have I been waiting for the world to hand me that I already carry?
