Song of Solomon 3:6 · World English Bible
Who is this who comes up from the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all spices of the merchant?
The one rising out of the wilderness is the awakened self ascending from the barren stretch of ordinary living, and it climbs like columns of smoke because the refined energy of the body moves upward as vapor when it is set alight within. The wilderness is the empty ground a person crosses before the inner marriage, and out of that emptiness the transformed life rises straight and fragrant.

ESOTERIC
The one rising out of the wilderness is the awakened self ascending from the barren stretch of ordinary living, and it climbs like columns of smoke because the refined energy of the body moves upward as vapor when it is set alight within. The wilderness is the empty ground a person crosses before the inner marriage, and out of that emptiness the transformed life rises straight and fragrant. Myrrh and frankincense are the 2 currents burned on the inner altar, the bitter and the sweet, the substance of dying to the lower self and the substance of prayer that ascends.
All the powders of the merchant are the many finer essences the seeking self has gathered along the way. What comes up out of the desert is a consciousness distilled by its own trial, offering itself as sweet smoke toward the light above.
Wilderness: the barren stretch of ordinary living a person crosses before the inner union Pillars of smoke: the refined energy of the body rising upward when it is kindled within Myrrh: the bitter current on the inner altar, the substance of dying to the lower self Frankincense: the sweet ascending current, the prayer and aspiration that rise toward the light Powders of the merchant: the many finer essences the seeking self gathers along its passage
