Song of Solomon 6:3 Meaning I Am My Beloved’s

I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine. He browses among the lilies.

What does Song of Solomon 6:3 mean?

Belonging can come before possession. To say I am my beloved's before he is mine is the movement of surrender, where you give yourself first and claim nothing, and in that giving the anxious self that forever wants to secure its own gain grows still.

Ego v. Being

Belonging can come before possession. To say I am my beloved's before he is mine is the movement of surrender, where you give yourself first and claim nothing, and in that giving the anxious self that forever wants to secure its own gain grows still.

To love this way is to stop using another to fill your own inner lack. When you are whole in your own presence, love becomes not a transaction but a shared aliveness, feeding among the lilies of this moment. You belong to one another because the same consciousness is awake in you both, and when you give yourself first without demanding return, the fear of losing dissolves and love flows freely.

Union is complete when the seeker and the sought recognize they are one, and the words I am name the single eye, the pineal gland at the center of the head where that oneness is realized. To belong wholly to the beloved and have the beloved belong wholly back is to stand at that inner point where personal awareness and the divine presence are no longer 2, because they were never truly separate.

He feeds among the lilies, dwelling in peace, because the mind that has reached this center is nourished by stillness. The garden's purification has done its work, and what remains is a quiet belonging in which the divine is at home inside the person.

I am: the single eye, the pineal gland at the center of the head where oneness is realized. Lilies: peace, the stillness in which the divine presence feeds and dwells.

SUFISM

Sufism

Two flames leaning together make one light, and no one can say where the first ends and the second begins. Belonging and being belonged to are not two arrangements here but a single closeness seen from either side. The heart that keeps score in love, tallying who gave more, has split into two what was always one warmth.

The cure is to stop counting and simply rest in being had and having, the way the beloved rests among the lilies without hurry or proof. The One who is the Beloved is not far off in some other country. He is here, near as breath, browsing in the very field where the loving happens.

  1. Before you answer the next message that stings, put the phone down and ask yourself what you actually want from this person. If it is reassurance, give yourself a minute to sit with the lack instead of texting it over to them.
  2. In one conversation today, go first. Say the warm thing, admit the small fault, send the message you were waiting for them to send, and let nothing be owed back to you.
  3. At dinner or on the drive home, when the urge rises to keep score about who did more this week, let the count go unfinished. You can be generous and tired at the same time.

Where am I waiting for someone else to move first?

Act and love without clutching at the outcome. The giving itself is the whole of it, and what comes back is not the point.

Sufism · Rumi

The lover and the beloved turn out to be one thing, and the ache of separation was the illusion. What you reached for was never outside you.

Tao Te Ching

Water gives way and so it cannot be broken. Yielding first is not losing, it is the strongest position there is.
