EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

A man rushing down a road, certain of his cause, driven by everything he believed about himself. And then, suddenly, a light he did not summon and could not explain. Awakening often comes this way, not as the reward of effort but as an interruption of it.

The ego cannot arrange its own undoing. The self so sure of its direction had to be stopped in its tracks before anything new could enter. What shone around him was not merely brightness in the sky. It was the collapse of his old identity. In that instant the whole story he had lived by fell silent, and he could finally begin to see.

Live Acts 9:3 today

  1. Somewhere today your plan will fall apart, a cancelled call, a dead battery, a train that does not come. Instead of scrambling to patch it, stand still in it for a moment and see what the pause shows you.
  2. The next time someone says something about you that lands uncomfortably close to true, resist explaining yourself. Let the silence hold it, and see if any of it fits.
  3. When traffic stops dead or the line will not move, let your hands open on the wheel or in your pockets. The interruption you did not choose can be the only quiet you get all day.

Where in your life is something being interrupted that you have been fighting hard to keep on track?

Tao Te Ching 48

The way forward is not adding more and more. It is letting things fall away until what is left can act on its own.

Zen

No one reasons their way into sudden seeing. It arrives on its own, often when the striving mind has finally run out of road.

Sufism · Rumi

The wound is where the light gets in. What breaks your plans open is sometimes the only opening you had.
