EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

When you struggle against the flow of life, you are not fighting some external force. You are fighting yourself. To kick against the pricks is to resist what already is, and that resistance is the only source of your pain.

The mind believes it opposes an enemy, yet there is no enemy, only the one consciousness looking back at you through every face you thought you could harm. The moment you stop this inner war, the suffering that seemed to come from outside dissolves, because you were its only source.

  1. Pick the one thing today you keep arguing with in your head, the weather, your body, the slow app, the delay. Try saying, this is how it is right now, and feel where the clenching drops.
  2. In the group chat or at dinner, when someone takes the position you cannot stand, stay curious for one full question longer than you want to. You are not agreeing. You are stopping the war inside yourself.
  3. When pressure hits at work and you feel yourself bracing against it, unclench your jaw and let your shoulders drop before you respond. Most of the strain was never in the task.

What are you pushing against right now that would cost you nothing to simply let be?
