John 13:32 Meaning If God Has Been Glorified in Him

If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him immediately.

What does John 13:32 mean?

Spoken the night before the betrayal, this turns honor upside down. The heart wants glory it can keep and display, but here the one who is honored is the one who first gave the honor away, keeping none of the light for himself.

Sufism

Spoken the night before the betrayal, this turns honor upside down. The heart wants glory it can keep and display, but here the one who is honored is the one who first gave the honor away, keeping none of the light for himself. The cure is to hand every bit of praise straight back, quietly, the moment it arrives.

God is present in that quick exchange. The giving and the receiving are one motion, and the one who stops hoarding the light finds it shining through him at once.

Live John 13:32 today

  1. When something goes well today, say thanks under your breath and move on instead of replaying it. Let the good moment pass through you rather than get stored.
  2. When someone praises your work, pass the credit to a real name within the same breath. Not false modesty, just the truth about who else was in it.
  3. Under pressure, when you catch yourself building the case for how much you contributed, drop it mid sentence. Do the next piece of work instead.

What am I holding onto that was only ever passing through my hands?

Act, and let go of the fruit of the act. What you hand back opens the hand for the next thing.

What you have was lent to you, not made by you, so return it lightly when the moment comes. The borrower who grips hardest suffers most.
