John 17:24 · World English Bible

John 17:24 Meaning Father

Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me be with me where I am, that they may see my glory, which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world.

What does John 17:24 mean?

The one desire of the awakened mind is that every part of it come to rest where it already rests, in the changeless awareness that stands before and beneath the whole dream of time. To be where the teacher is is not to travel anywhere but to share the single vision that sees only innocence, the glory that was never earned and never lost.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The one desire of the awakened mind is that every part of it come to rest where it already rests, in the changeless awareness that stands before and beneath the whole dream of time. To be where the teacher is is not to travel anywhere but to share the single vision that sees only innocence, the glory that was never earned and never lost.

That love came before the foundation of the world means it does not depend on anything the world contains. It was true before separation was imagined and remains untouched by it, so a mind returning to it discovers a love that no event could begin and no event can end, waiting exactly where it always was.

Father: the changeless Source whose love precedes and outlasts the whole dream of time, the awareness the mind rests in once it stops wandering

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Where I am is not a place you travel to. It is the state of presence, the aliveness of this moment, the only ground on which two beings meet. The longing is that others come to dwell in that same awakened awareness, to stand where the mind grows still and only the Now remains.

There they behold the glory, the radiance consciousness has carried. This love came before the foundation of the world. It depends on nothing you have done, for it was already whole before time and form began. It is simply what you are beneath the world.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Father and son here are one relationship inside you, not two beings. The Father is your own awareness of being, the I AM; the son is the state that awareness has brought forth and now calls its own. The longing of the whole verse is for these two to stand in the same place, for the state you imagined to be lived from and not merely glimpsed.

"Before the foundation of the world" points behind every fact laid down in your life. You existed as awareness before the outer world you now see was ever built, and that awareness was loved and chosen first. The glory to behold is one discovery. The imagining power and the one who imagines were never two. You are the Father begetting the son, and the drama closes the moment you know it.

SUFISM

Sufism

Shawq: Longing Shawq is the plain pull toward the company of someone you love. When it runs deep it widens, and whoever has found something good starts wanting the people they care about inside it too. So the wanting turns outward and gets spoken on their behalf, often before they know enough to want it for themselves.

Uns: Feeling at home with God Uns names the ease of being near God with no dread mixed in. Most of the comfort in any promise comes from who else will be there. A destination on its own stays cold, and the company is what turns it into a home.

Tajallī: God showing Himself Tajallī is God letting something of Himself be seen. The showing comes from His side, the way a face turns toward you, and no amount of effort pries it open. So the sight gets handed over, and the ones who receive it are being let into something that was first a gift to someone else.

He loves them and they love Him: God's love comes first A line of the Quran puts God's love ahead of ours in that order. Read that way, a person's own pull toward God was an answer rather than an opening move. Anyone who assumed they had to earn their standing finds the ground was already laid before they showed up.

Am I not your Lord: the tie to God is older than the world The Quran tells of God gathering all souls before creation, asking that question, and hearing them answer yes. So the bond predates a person's birth, and it sits underneath everything they have since done or failed to do. Rumi hears that forgotten yes behind the homesickness people feel and cannot explain, and knowing you were wanted that early takes the anxiety out of belonging.

  1. Before you reach for your phone tomorrow morning, stay still for one minute with nothing to fix. Whatever you were going to look for out there is not missing in here.
  2. The next time you catch yourself thinking life starts after the move, the promotion, the trip, say it out loud to someone. Hearing it in your own voice usually shows how long you have been postponing being here.
  3. In traffic or a long line, when the restlessness rises, let it rise without acting on it. There is nowhere else to get to in the next four minutes, and this is as good a place to be as the one you are driving toward.

What am I waiting to reach that I am already standing in?
