John 2:10 Meaning And Said to Him

and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when the guests have drunk freely, then that which is worse. You have kept the good wine until now!”

What does John 2:10 mean?

The world runs on a fear of scarcity, expecting the good to be spent early and the lesser to follow, as though joy were a supply that runs down and dims with time. This is the ego's arithmetic, in which everything precious is used up and what remains is only diminishment.

The world runs on a fear of scarcity, expecting the good to be spent early and the lesser to follow, as though joy were a supply that runs down and dims with time. This is the ego's arithmetic, in which everything precious is used up and what remains is only diminishment.

But a mind that has changed teachers reverses the fear entirely. Under love the best is not squandered at the start and mourned; it is kept and deepened, so that what comes later is richer than what came before. A mind that trusts this discovers that love does not run out but ripens, and the finest gift is still ahead.

The good wine: the gladness of love that fear expects to run out, but which the awakened mind finds only deepens with time. That which is worse: the ego's belief in scarcity, that whatever is precious must be spent early and followed by loss.

  1. Catch yourself the next time you think the best part of the day is over by ten in the morning. Try the thought that the better hour has not arrived yet, and see how the afternoon goes.
  2. With a friend or a partner you have known a long time, say out loud something that has gotten better, not just older. Long love is often richer than new love and almost never gets told so.
  3. When a plan collapses and the day feels downgraded, hold off on the verdict. Give the rearranged version a real chance before you file it under worse.

Where am I treating my own life as something already past its best part?

The way does not empty as it is used. What pours out of it is never spent, so nothing about it needs to be hoarded at the start.

He wrote late in life that the mind can turn whatever it meets into fuel for itself, which means the richest material is never behind a person but inside the next thought.
