The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.

What does Jonah 3:5 mean?

Certainty that has not reached your hands by the end of the day is a mood, and moods change nothing. Believing a catastrophe and believing a rescue run on identical machinery, which is why a city taking God's warning of an unseen overthrow as settled fact is already doing the hard part.

Certainty that has not reached your hands by the end of the day is a mood, and moods change nothing.

Believing a catastrophe and believing a rescue run on identical machinery, which is why a city taking God's warning of an unseen overthrow as settled fact is already doing the hard part. Their belief set the dread, the dread set an urgency, and the urgency reached the body while it was still hot.

Public acts are what cut off retreat. A person who has fasted in front of their own household cannot quietly resume the life they had that morning, and a decision that expensive is what turns a belief into a direction. Let the conviction sit unspent for a week instead and a person keeps the belief and loses the outcome it was offered to buy.

Live Jonah 3:5 today

  1. Take the thing you have believed you should do for weeks and do a visible piece of it today, something you cannot pretend tomorrow you never started.
  2. Tell one person what you have decided to change and ask them to check in on Friday. Said out loud, it stops being a private mood.
  3. When the next conviction lands, during a podcast on the commute or a sermon or a hard conversation, put one concrete thing in your calendar before the feeling cools.

What have you been sure about for a month without your hands catching up?
