Luke 8:17 Meaning For Nothing Is Hidden That Will Not

For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed; nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

What does Luke 8:17 mean?

Nothing the mind conceals can stay concealed forever, because concealment is itself the ego's device, and the ego cannot hold against the light. Guilt hoards its secrets and calls them safety, believing that what is hidden is protected, when in truth what is hidden only festers.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Nothing the mind conceals can stay concealed forever, because concealment is itself the ego's device, and the ego cannot hold against the light. Guilt hoards its secrets and calls them safety, believing that what is hidden is protected, when in truth what is hidden only festers. A mind afraid of being seen is a mind that has judged itself and dreads the sentence it expects.

Yet there is nothing in the mind that love cannot look upon and heal. What is brought into the open before a gentle Teacher is not condemned but understood, and understanding dissolves it. The secret loses its power the moment it is seen without fear, for it was the hiding, not the thing hidden, that gave it weight.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

Whatever a person pushes down does not vanish. The things we refuse to look at keep working on us from below, shaping our moods, our slips of the tongue, the way we react to others without knowing why. Nothing buried stays buried for long.

A man who hides his anger from himself will find it leaking out in his dreams, in his sudden coldness, in the faults he keeps spotting in everyone around him. What he would not face comes back wearing another mask. Sooner or later the inner life insists on being seen, and the only real choice is whether we meet it on purpose or wait for it to break through on its own.

SUFISM

Sufism

The self loves a private room where the polished public face can rest and the real motive can hide. This saying quietly removes the walls. What is done for show, the small vanity, the grudge kept warm, will one day stand in open light, so it is wiser to bring them out now, in honest self-examination, before they are brought out for us.

The light that will reveal everything is not a stranger's. Nothing is truly hidden from the One in whom each thing already appears, so to live as if seen is only to live as things already are.

Live Luke 8:17 today

  1. Name to yourself, in plain words, the thing you have been carrying quietly. Written down, it is usually smaller than it was in the dark.
  2. Tell one person you trust something you have been managing alone. Not the whole story, just the true first sentence.
  3. When you catch yourself shaping a message to hide a mistake, send the plain version instead. The cover-up costs more than the mistake.

What am I protecting that would lose its weight the moment someone kind knew about it?

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Live as if your thoughts could be read aloud and you will find you have nothing left to defend. Most of the weight was in the hiding.

Zen

Bring the thing you fear into the light and look at it steadily. Under a calm gaze it loses the size that darkness gave it.

Sufism

An illness hidden from the physician cannot be treated. What is finally spoken aloud has already begun to mend.
