CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The correction here is gentle even as it firmly refuses the wish to destroy, for it names the true trouble, which is that the mind has forgotten which teacher it is listening to. When a mind reaches for attack it has quietly changed teachers, letting fear speak while believing it still serves love. To be told it does not know what spirit moves it is to be shown that a substitution has occurred without its noticing.
This is the whole of the miracle, the recognition that the impulse to harm is not who the mind is but only what it has chosen to hear. Once the mind sees which voice it has been following, it is already free to turn and choose again. The rebuke does not condemn the wish. It simply lifts the mind's eyes back to the teacher it truly wants.

EGO & BEING
When a village closes its door to you, the ego stirs at once, hungry to punish, eager to call down fire on those who did not receive it. This is the reactive mind, and it always believes it acts for something holy. But the urge to destroy what rejects you comes from a wounded sense of self, not from the awakened life within.
To turn, as he turned, is to become aware of the spirit moving through you before it speaks. In that moment of noticing, you see that the impulse is not who you are. You are the awareness behind it, and once you know this, the fire has nothing left to burn.

Which teacher have I been listening to for the last hour, without once checking?
The one who holds back rising anger the way a driver reins in a runaway chariot is the true charioteer; everyone else is merely holding the reins. The victory is inward, over the mind that wants to strike.
We are not disturbed by events but by the judgments we place on them, and those judgments are ours to inspect. The moment you ask which opinion you are obeying, you are no longer simply obeying it.
A man in a boat is enraged by another boat that bumps him, then sees it is empty and drifting, and his anger has nowhere to go. Nothing changed but what he believed he was meeting.
