Mark 7:9 Meaning He Said to Them

He said to them, “Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.

What does Mark 7:9 mean?

There is a deliberateness in how a fearful mind turns from truth, for it does not lose God's law by accident but sets it aside to protect what it prefers. The ego keeps its own tradition because that tradition keeps the ego, and any commandment that would dissolve separation is refused with quiet skill.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

There is a deliberateness in how a fearful mind turns from truth, for it does not lose God's law by accident but sets it aside to protect what it prefers. The ego keeps its own tradition because that tradition keeps the ego, and any commandment that would dissolve separation is refused with quiet skill. What looks like devotion to the old way is really devotion to remaining unchanged.

This is guilt choosing its own comfort over its healing. The mind is not weak here but stubborn, guarding the very beliefs that hurt it. Salvation asks only that the grip loosen, that the cherished rule be traded for the law of love it was built to keep out.

Tradition is the force that stands in the way of the inner work, exposed here as the very thing that pushes aside the commandment of God written in a person. Tradition is Saturn and Satan, the heavy outer rule that keeps a person bound to literal religion and the ceaseless demands of the flesh, and clinging to it means never sitting still long enough to activate the dormant right side of the mind.

The commandment of God is not an outer law but the inner instruction to turn within and draw from the deep well where truth actually rises. To keep tradition and reject that is to guard the empty forms while abandoning the living source.

Tradition: Saturn and Satan, the heavy outer rule that binds a person to literal religion and the flesh. Well: the deep inner place from which real truth rises when a person turns within.

  1. Think of an opinion you defend a little too hard. Spend five minutes genuinely trying to see why someone who disagrees might be right, without arguing back in your head.
  2. In your next disagreement with someone you love, stop before you reach for the old reliable argument. Ask them a real question instead and listen to the whole answer.
  3. When the pressure rises at work and you feel yourself digging in, say the hardest honest sentence: maybe I am wrong about this. See how much lighter the room gets.

What am I protecting that is costing me more than it gives?

Suffering continues because we hold on, and we hold on because we would rather keep what is familiar than let it go. The grip is a choice, repeated.

It is impossible for a person to learn what they think they already know. Certainty is the door that stays shut.
