Matthew 2:8 Meaning He Sent Them to Bethlehem

He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”

What does Matthew 2:8 mean?

The rejected, hidden side speaks in the language of the whole self. Herod's promise to come and worship is a mask worn by the old ruler within, the tyrant-self that cannot bow before the newborn sense of God and so must find it only to destroy it.

The rejected, hidden side speaks in the language of the whole self. Herod's promise to come and worship is a mask worn by the old ruler within, the tyrant-self that cannot bow before the newborn sense of God and so must find it only to destroy it.

The star over Bethlehem announced God taking flesh, the true self breaking into awareness, and the wise men who follow it carry the real movement toward wholeness: the everyday self willingly bowing before the pattern of wholeness. Worship is the joining of opposites, but what Herod offers is a fake, a false show of devotion that hides his hunger to snuff out whatever threatens his reign.

Live Matthew 2:8 today

  1. Pick one thing you do mostly so people see you doing it. Do it today with no post, no mention, no telling anyone, and see whether you still want to.
  2. When you agree with someone today, check that you actually do. Polite agreement that hides a no is a small lie that costs both of you later.
  3. Under pressure, when the easy move is to say the generous thing you do not mean, say the smaller true thing instead. I need to think about it beats a warm yes you will quietly undo.

Where are your words saying yes while something in you is saying no?

Do not perform the philosophy, live it. The sheep does not show the shepherd its wool, it simply grows it.

The show of virtue is already a departure from virtue. What is real does not need an audience to confirm it.

There is a kind of devotion that is only a costume. Beneath the right words, see what the heart is actually reaching for.
