What does Matthew 22:29 mean?

The reasoning mind that argues only from the plane of flesh goes astray because it has read the sacred writings as outward history and never opened their inner sense. To not know the scriptures is to miss that these words are a map of the body and consciousness, not a chronicle of dead events.

The reasoning mind that argues only from the plane of flesh goes astray because it has read the sacred writings as outward history and never opened their inner sense. To not know the scriptures is to miss that these words are a map of the body and consciousness, not a chronicle of dead events. To not know the power of God is to be blind to the living force within a person that raises the self above the round of mortal states.

The error is the whole error of literalism. The lower intellect handles the coded text as if it recorded only past marriages and deaths, and so it cannot see the indwelling energy that lifts awareness beyond the earthly cycle it keeps reasoning inside of.

Live Matthew 22:29 today

  1. Read one short thing slowly today, a few lines you already know, and ask what it is saying about you right now rather than what it means in general. Stay with it until something shifts, even slightly.
  2. When someone tells you something today, resist filing it under what you already believe. Ask them one real question instead of giving them your take.
  3. In a disagreement today, catch the moment you start defending the exact wording instead of looking at the thing itself. Let the wording go and look again.

Where have you settled for knowing about something instead of knowing it?
