Matthew 28:20 Meaning Teaching Them to Observe All Things

teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

What does Matthew 28:20 mean?

A mind is asked to teach only what it would learn, for teaching and learning are one act, and what a mind shows another it deepens in itself. The promise that love stays near until the end of the world is not a comfort stretched across time but a fact about the mind: the loving teacher is never absent, and the only distance is the mind's own turning away.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind is asked to teach only what it would learn, for teaching and learning are one act, and what a mind shows another it deepens in itself. The promise that love stays near until the end of the world is not a comfort stretched across time but a fact about the mind: the loving teacher is never absent, and the only distance is the mind's own turning away. What ends when the world ends is the belief in separation, not a place or a day.

So the companionship offered here is already present, waiting on nothing but the mind's willingness to hear it. A mind is never left alone with its fear, for the other teacher has been beside the thought the whole time.

End of the world: the moment the belief in separation is finally laid down, the close not of a place but of a way of seeing

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Beneath your name and your history there is a simple sense of presence, an awareness of being that is with you always. This is the 'I Am' in you, and it has never once left.

It stays because it lives only in the Now, and the Now is the one thing that never goes away. Past and future arise and vanish as thoughts, but this presence remains beneath them all. That is why it can be with you even to the end of your world, because the awareness of being is here in every moment, and every moment is now.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The presence that never leaves is your own awareness of being. Everything you have ever known has come and gone inside it, yet the sense of "I am" that watched it all remained. That is the companion promised here, the one thing that cannot depart, because it is the ground on which every experience stands.

The end of the world is not a date on a calendar. Each ending closes one state of mind and opens another, and through every such passage your awareness carries over unbroken. Fortunes rise and fall, relationships form and dissolve, whole seasons of life close behind you. The consciousness holding them stays. A person is never abandoned by the very thing looking out through his eyes.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The presence that promises to remain is the divine consciousness within a person, not a figure receding into the sky but the awakened self that never departs once found. The end of the world is not the finish of the planet but the completion of an inner age, the passing of one whole state of mind as the lower order dissolves and the higher takes its place. Through every such ending the indwelling principle abides, carrying the person across the death of one condition into the next. What is with a person always is the self that outlasts each collapse of the old life.

End of the world: the close of an inner age, the dissolving of one whole condition of consciousness rather than the end of the earth.

SUFISM

Sufism

The parting words are not really a goodbye but a promise that there will be no goodbye. A stream does not leave the mountain when it flows down into the valley; the source travels with it the whole way. So the presence promised here is not a keepsake memory but a companion who stays.

A lonely voice keeps whispering that a person walks the long road alone, and it is simply not true. The answer is to keep doing the plain work asked, the daily keeping of what was taught, trusting the company is real. And the promise holds as a promise stretching to the last day: always, with no hour left out.

Live Matthew 28:20 today

  1. Teach one person something you are still trying to live yourself, patience with a kid, going easier on your own mistakes. Saying it out loud will hold you to it more than any plan.
  2. When a friend says they feel alone, do not argue with the feeling. Just stay on the phone a little longer than is comfortable, because presence does the work the words cannot.
  3. In the middle of a hard day, when you feel completely on your own with it, take ten seconds to say quietly that you are not. Then go back to the inbox, the kids, the drive, carrying that instead of the panic.

What would feel different right now if the company you want had been there the whole time?
