Matthew 9:32 Meaning As They Went Out

As they went out, behold, a mute man who was demon possessed was brought to him.

What does Matthew 9:32 mean?

Being unable to speak is the body's seal on a hidden self that has swallowed the everyday person whole. The man brought forward has lost the most human power of all, speech, and that silence is the sign of a rejected inner part so strong it has closed off every way of expressing himself.

Psychoanalysis

Being unable to speak is the body's seal on a hidden self that has swallowed the everyday person whole. The man brought forward has lost the most human power of all, speech, and that silence is the sign of a rejected inner part so strong it has closed off every way of expressing himself. Old traditions called this being possessed. In plainer terms, the parts a person refuses to face have grown their own will and now drive ruin through those who believe themselves most free of them.

When wholeness pushes to be born, the strain locked inside that old pattern breaks into open conflict, and that inner argument forces a person to see more clearly, the first step toward becoming whole. Think of a man who finally says the word he spent years holding down, and lives through it.

Live Matthew 9:32 today

  1. Find the sentence you have been not saying, the one that tightens your chest when you get close to it. Say it alone, out loud, badly, just to hear that your voice still works around it.
  2. With one person, say the smaller version of that true thing today. Not the whole speech. One honest sentence, and then breathe.
  3. When you go quiet in a meeting or a family dinner because speaking feels too costly, ask yourself who you are protecting. Then say the one sentence you would regret swallowing.

What have I been unable to say, and what is it costing me to keep it in?
