CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

There is a way of seeking that cannot find. A mind still committed to fear reaches for peace while holding tight to the grievance that makes peace impossible, and so it looks and looks and touches nothing. Love has not withdrawn. It cannot be found by a mind that seeks it while refusing the one condition of finding, the willingness to see the other as innocent and lay the attack down.

The silence is not abandonment. It is the plain fact that truth and the wish for separation cannot be held at once, and a mind finds only what it has truly chosen.

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

Wisdom cannot be reached by panic. The calling comes from a man who has run out of options, and a mind that calls only when cornered is asking for rescue, not for truth; it wants the trouble removed so it can go back to sleep.

Diligence is no help either while the search runs outward. What is being sought is the one who is searching, so every grab throws it further away. It becomes available in the gap where the seeking exhausts itself, and that gap cannot be manufactured by wanting it more.

Live Proverbs 1:28 today

  1. Think of the person you most want to be done being upset with, and sit with how badly you want peace while still wanting to be right about them. Ask yourself honestly which one you would keep if you could only have one.
  2. Next time someone close to you brings up the old sore subject, drop your side of it for the length of that one conversation. Not forever, just this once, and see what the air feels like without it.
  3. When you are stuck in traffic or a slow line and the irritation rises, catch the small case you are building against the driver or the cashier, and set the case down before it finishes.

What am I still holding that I would have to put down to get the peace I keep asking for?

Zen

A student kept asking the master for the gate, while standing with both hands gripping the fence. The master said the gate was never locked, but hands that will not open cannot pass through.

Tao Te Ching

The one who grasps loses, and the one who yields arrives. Water makes its way by giving way, never by forcing.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

Whoever carries the thought "he wronged me" keeps the fire burning. Peace is not found while that thought is still held dear.
