Proverbs 5:17 Meaning Let Them Be for Yourself Alone
Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you.

Proverbs 5:17 · World English Bible
Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you.
When love seems to belong to a stranger, to be granted or withheld by another, the mind hands away the one thing it can never lose and makes itself a beggar at a door. What is genuinely one's own is the inner presence of love, and this cannot be divided or claimed by any other, for it was given by God and not by the world.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
When love seems to belong to a stranger, to be granted or withheld by another, the mind hands away the one thing it can never lose and makes itself a beggar at a door. What is genuinely one's own is the inner presence of love, and this cannot be divided or claimed by any other, for it was given by God and not by the world.
To keep the waters as one's own is to stop crediting the outside world with a peace that only rises from within. A mind that owns its source stops bargaining for it.
Strangers: the outside figures and forces the mind wrongly credits with its peace, the false owners to whom it hands away what was always its own
Christian Psychology lens
What have I been asking someone else to hand me today that was already mine?
The one who looks outward for worth stays restless, because nothing out there can be held. Knowing your own ground is a wealth no one hands you and no one can take back.
Some things are ours and some are not. Reputation, affection, the moods of other people are not ours, and the moment we stake our peace on them we have made ourselves a servant to whoever holds them.
You keep knocking at doors, asking to be let in, while the thing you want is already inside the house you are standing in. The beggar at the gate was always the owner.
