Revelation 14:9 Meaning Another Angel

Another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a great voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead, or on his hand,

What does Revelation 14:9 mean?

To worship the beast is to bow the whole self before the appetites and animal drives of the body, taking that lower nature as the god one obeys. The mark in the forehead is the seat of thought given over to it, the mind stamped with fleshly reasoning; the mark in the hand is the deed, the act carrying the same allegiance.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

To worship the beast is to bow the whole self before the appetites and animal drives of the body, taking that lower nature as the god one obeys. The mark in the forehead is the seat of thought given over to it, the mind stamped with fleshly reasoning; the mark in the hand is the deed, the act carrying the same allegiance.

Thinking and doing both fall under the sign of the flesh. This is a person whose consciousness and works are governed entirely by the body instead of the spirit.

Beast: the animal nature of the body with its raw drives and appetites Forehead: the seat of thought and reasoning, where consciousness fixes its allegiance Hand: the outward deed, the act that carries what the mind has already chosen

Live Revelation 14:9 today

  1. Catch one impulse today in the gap before you act on it: the second helping, the angry reply, the thing in the cart. You do not have to win. Just see that there was a gap.
  2. Tell one person something true you would normally soften to be liked. Pleasing the room is its own kind of obeying.
  3. When pressure hits and the quickest escape is right there, pick the slower thing once. Your hands will go wherever your head has already bowed, so settle the head first.

What am I actually taking orders from today?

The same truth in other traditions

Bhagavad Gita 3

The senses pull hard, and the person who obeys them has handed over the reins. The one who holds them is free, not because desire ended but because it stopped giving orders.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

The mind leads and the actions follow. Think from craving and your deeds will carry its stamp, as the wheel follows the ox.

Stoicism · Epictetus

What you choose to serve, you obey. Make your body the master and you are its servant in both your thinking and your doing.
