Revelation 2:3 · World English Bible
You have perseverance and have endured for my name’s sake, and have not grown weary.
A load was taken up and held. Patience means staying under that weight without stepping out from under it, not waiting calmly for something to pass.

PROTESTANT
A load was taken up and held. Patience means staying under that weight without stepping out from under it, not waiting calmly for something to pass. The work set beside it names a bone-deep tiredness, and the collapse that usually follows never came.
The motive is named as well, carried for his name. That marks off endurance from stubbornness, which can also hold out for years for the sake of being right. Years like those leave no record anywhere else. He has kept one, and He says it out loud in front of the whole gathering.

ESOTERIC
This is the inner condition of a self that has held steady under the long weight of the awakening work without collapsing. To have borne and kept patience is the endurance of the awareness as it carries the strain of transformation, holding its ground while the lower nature resists. The name labored for is the true inner nature a person is working to realize, and effort spent for its sake is the whole self spent in the service of that emerging identity. Not to have fainted is the awareness refusing to lose consciousness of its aim, staying awake through the exhaustion so the inner work is not dropped halfway.

Am I still carrying this for love, or only to prove I was right?
