Revelation 2:5 · World English Bible

Revelation 2:5 Meaning Remember Therefore From Where You Have Fallen

Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I am coming to you swiftly, and will move your lamp stand out of its place, unless you repent.

What does Revelation 2:5 mean?

The fall is a drop from the higher right-brain mind down into the lower carnal one, and the whole remedy is to turn back up. To repent is to reverse that downward current, to change the way one is thinking and climb again toward the higher consciousness reached in meditation.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The fall is a drop from the higher right-brain mind down into the lower carnal one, and the whole remedy is to turn back up. To repent is to reverse that downward current, to change the way one is thinking and climb again toward the higher consciousness reached in meditation. The first works are the original inner practices, the quiet disciplines that first lifted the mind. Let them go and the candlestick is taken from its place, meaning the spine, the golden column up which the light was meant to rise, no longer carries the current, and the inner lamp goes dark. The energy that stood upright and shining settles back down, and a person who has stopped the practice loses the very channel the light climbed through.

Live Revelation 2:5 today

  1. Pick up the practice you dropped, today, in its smallest form. Not the whole old routine, just the first step of it, done once.
  2. Reach back out to the person you have drifted from without explaining the gap. A short honest message now is worth more than the perfect one you keep not sending.
  3. When you catch yourself sliding into the old reflex, scrolling, snapping, going numb, stop mid-slide and turn around. The turn is allowed in the middle, not only at the start.

What do I already know I need to turn back toward?

Zen

Falling down is not the problem, staying down is. The whole instruction is to return to the cushion, again, as many times as it takes.

Judaism · teshuvah

The word for repentance means turning, a change of direction rather than a spasm of guilt. You are not asked to feel worse, you are asked to face back the other way.

Tao Te Ching

Returning is the movement of the Way. What has gone out comes back, and the health of a thing is in its going home, not in its going further.
