Revelation 2:7 · World English Bible

Revelation 2:7 Meaning He Who Has an Ear

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of my God.

What does Revelation 2:7 mean?

To have an ear that truly hears is to listen with something deeper than the mind. Most hearing is only the mind sorting words into old categories.

Ego v. Being

To have an ear that truly hears is to listen with something deeper than the mind. Most hearing is only the mind sorting words into old categories. But there is a listening in which you are simply present, and in that stillness a deeper truth reaches you.

The one who overcomes is the one who no longer lives as a prisoner of the egoic self. To such a one is given to eat of the tree of life, and that tree stands in the midst of paradise, which is not a place you reach after death. It is the aliveness of this present moment, tasted fully the instant you stop identifying with thought.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The ear that hears is the inner hearing, awake only in the one who has turned attention inward. What is promised to the one who overcomes the lower nature is the tree of life, the spine itself standing at the center of the body, up which the awakened energy climbs.

Paradise is that inner garden, the body restored to its first order. To eat of the tree is to draw on that living current rising through the backbone until the whole system is fed by it.

Ear: the inner hearing that wakes when attention turns away from the outer world. Tree of life: the spinal column at the center of the body, the channel the awakened energy rises through. Paradise of God: the inner garden of the restored body, its original order regained.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

The call to listen is aimed at whoever still can. Most people have grown deaf to the quiet inner voice that speaks through dreams and sudden feelings. To have an ear is to keep the ability to hear that deeper part of oneself at all.

The one who overcomes is promised fruit from the tree of life. The struggle meant here is the long, hard work of facing oneself honestly and becoming whole. The tree of life stands for the living center a person reaches at the end of that work. Whoever does the inner labor is fed again from the source of their own life.

Live Revelation 2:7 today

  1. Listen to one song or sit with one cup of coffee giving it your whole attention, with nothing else open. Life gets vivid fast when you stop splitting yourself.
  2. In your next real conversation, listen without deciding what it means while they are still speaking. Let them finish and let yourself be surprised.
  3. In the middle of a busy afternoon, stop for thirty seconds and feel that you are alive right now. Nothing has to be fixed first for that to be good.

What have I been waiting for before I let myself be happy?

A teacher said the cup must be empty to be filled. Listening that is busy sorting into what it already believes has no room left for anything new.

The way is not a pile of knowledge you add to. It is what is left when you drop what you were carrying.
