Revelation 20:4 · World English Bible

Revelation 20:4 Meaning I Saw Thrones

I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, and such as didn’t worship the beast nor his image, and didn’t receive the mark on their forehead and on their hand. They lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

What does Revelation 20:4 mean?

The powers of a person come into rule when the higher awareness is enthroned inside. To be beheaded for the witness is to lose the reasoning surface mind, the head that argues and doubts, so the deeper knowing can govern in its place.

The powers of a person come into rule when the higher awareness is enthroned inside. To be beheaded for the witness is to lose the reasoning surface mind, the head that argues and doubts, so the deeper knowing can govern in its place. Those who never took the mark of the beast are the states in a person that never surrendered thought and action to the animal, sense-bound nature. Freed from that lower rule, they share in the long, full reign of the awakened life.

The forehead and the hand are where mind and deed are stamped; the mark not received means neither the thinking nor the doing was owned by the lower self. When the animal nature no longer stamps thought and act, the higher life governs from within.

Thrones: the seats of inner authority a person comes to occupy when the higher awareness rules Beast: the animal, sense-bound nature that seeks to govern thought and action Mark: the claiming of the mind and the deeds by the lower nature, stamped where a person thinks and acts Forehead: the place of thought, where the governing self is marked Hand: the place of action, where the governing self is marked 1000 years: the number of fullness and completion, the whole undivided reign of the awakened life

Live Revelation 20:4 today

  1. Today, when you catch yourself arguing with reality in your head, writing the reply you will never send, rehearsing the fight, set it down and let the quieter part of you take the wheel for a few minutes.
  2. In your next conversation, listen all the way to the end without building your answer while the other person talks. Let what you say come from having heard rather than from having prepared.
  3. When pressure hits and your mind starts spinning out worst cases, put a hand on the desk and ask what the steadiest part of you would do next. Then do that one thing.

Which part of you is sitting in the chair today, the one that argues or the one that knows?

Zen

The teachers speak of dying before you die, letting the arguing, calculating mind fall away so a deeper knowing can answer. What speaks then is not cleverness; it is what you actually are.

Tao Te Ching 48

In learning you add every day. In the Way you take away, until you reach the place where nothing is forced and everything gets done.

Sufism · Rumi

Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment. The head that keeps debating is not the part of you that can see.
