Revelation 4:10 Meaning The Twenty-four Elders Fall Down Before Him

the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives forever and ever, and throw their crowns before the throne, saying,

What does Revelation 4:10 mean?

The 24 elders lowering themselves before the throne are the divisions of the day and the star-map read across the 24 hours, the whole measured circle of the heavens giving service to the seat of higher consciousness within a person. Their worship is not groveling praise but service, the older words behind it meaning to serve rather than to flatter, so the ordered time-cycle of the self offers itself to its own ruling center.

Casting down their crowns is the surrender of every lesser authority, each division laying its rule at the one seat that outlasts them all, the higher mind that lives on without end.

This is the interior clock and star-chart aligning under the awareness that governs it. What looks like a heavenly court is the self's own measured order deferring to its summit. The meaning is clear: every part of a person's inner cycle gives up its separate claim and serves the higher consciousness at the center.

Throne: the seat of higher human consciousness within a person, the enduring ruling center 4 and 20 elders: the 24-hour division of the zodiac star-map, the measured circle of the heavens within the self Crowns: the separate authorities each inner division holds, laid down before the ruling center

Live Revelation 4:10 today

  1. Pick one small thing you insist on controlling, the way the dishwasher is loaded, the exact wording of a message, and just let it be done someone else's way today.
  2. In a conversation where you know you are right, let it go unproven. See what happens in the room when you stop defending your corner.
  3. When you are under pressure and your first move is to take over, hand one piece of it to someone else instead. Giving up a little authority usually gives you back your attention.

What are you still holding onto that was never really yours to run?

Taoism · Tao Te Ching 22

The sage does not display himself and so is seen clearly, does not claim credit and so is honored. What is laid down comes back as something larger.

Buddhism

The practice of letting go reaches all the way to letting go of the one who is letting go. Every private claim, including the claim to be the one in charge, is eventually set down.

Sufism · Al-Hallaj and the path of fana

The Sufi path speaks of fana, the fading of the small self in the presence of the real. Nothing is destroyed; the borrowed crown is simply handed back to the one it belonged to.
