Song of Solomon 4:10 Meaning How Beautiful Is Your Love
How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, the fragrance of your perfumes than all kinds of spices!

Song of Solomon 4:10 · World English Bible
How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, the fragrance of your perfumes than all kinds of spices!
The soul praised as both sister and spouse is the union of like with like, spirit meeting its own kind and its own bride at once, the 2 natures of a person recognized as one flesh and one blood. Love here is set above wine, which is the outer intoxication of the senses that lifts and then fails; the inner love runs deeper than any drink because it does not wear off.

ESOTERIC
The soul praised as both sister and spouse is the union of like with like, spirit meeting its own kind and its own bride at once, the 2 natures of a person recognized as one flesh and one blood. Love here is set above wine, which is the outer intoxication of the senses that lifts and then fails; the inner love runs deeper than any drink because it does not wear off. The ointments and their fragrance are the anointing oils secreted within, the fine essences of the awakened body whose scent surpasses every outward spice.
What delights the higher self is not sensation borrowed from outside but the sweetness that rises from within the body once it is consecrated. The perfume of that inner oil outlasts and outweighs the pleasures the world pours into a cup.
Wine: the outer intoxication of the senses, pleasure that lifts and then wears off Ointments: the anointing oil and fine essences within the body, the fragrance of the awakened flesh Spices: the outward pleasures and perfumes of the world, surpassed by the scent that rises from within

Which pleasure in my day leaves me emptier, and what quieter thing would actually fill me?
He reminded himself that pleasure borrowed from outside has to keep being borrowed, while a good inner state is a possession nobody hands you. The joy that holds is the one you did not have to buy.
The Dhammapada says the fragrance of a life lived well travels further than sandalwood or jasmine, and unlike them it does not fade. Character carries its own scent.
Too much color blinds the eye and too much flavor dulls the tongue, so the sage tends the center rather than chasing the display. What satisfies is quieter than what dazzles.
